A question on which I Pad would be best.
Hi Guys, for a person that dose not download movies and music, but just a few photos, and check emails, and play some games on occasion, would 16 Gig be enough, or would it be best to go for the 64 Gig I Pad.
This would be for Alice as we travel.
Many thanks.

If it's just for email, browsing and view images, the 16 GB one will be more than plenty.

If you can afford it get the next one up
I rarely download movies, ( i have a couple, usually i delete them from the ipad after backing upon the PC) have now removed all my music to my iPhone and still wish I had more storage
My son bought his iPad some months after me..and I recommended he get the next one up. And my son has a iPhone, an iPod, a kindle and a laptop....
......like work, iStuff seems to expand to consume all available resources....
I have the 16 g and of course that's a lot. But if you want to be comfortable get the next one up.
IMHO ,of course

Thanks H, and Narayan,, so it seems that between 16 and 32 would be ample, especially for what Alice wants to do with it.
Thank You.

Just a comment about using the iPad overseas....
The 3g card only works in the specific country of issue i.e. a french card works only in France, a UK card only in the UK....
A real bumma if you're working across Europe!

Yes 16 is plenty, I have maybe 120 songs, I watch a movie then remove, the 2 apps I have are 1.5Gb on there own (navigation & astro ) but u only use about half of the 16, 50-60 apps in total

Agree with the others, 16Gb would be OK Leon, I'd get the 3G model (i think it's only around $100 more) to have access to GPS and browsing while away from WI-FI. If she intends storing lots of large image files, or video, or movies then the 64gb would be better suited. Apple make a nice little dongle that allows super simple download from most cameras.
An apple TV interface is nice as well, they're only $109 and allow display of the iPad screen on your TV as well as streaming to the TV & from iTunes.
I bought HrH the 16Gb Ipad 2 Wi-Fi, I'm kicking myself for not getting the 3G model as she wants to take it when visiting the kids in Brisbane and they have no Wi-Fi Access. I have prepaid on my iPad, I've only topped it up on a couple of occasions when I need 3G.

I'd personally go for the 32gig, you can never have enough storage until its too late.
As for the 3G.... If Leon has a mobile phone with a data plan he can always tether the IPAD of it for ocassional use. Not to mention wifi hotspots that are around.
My 2cents worth.

Leon - you're travelling. The GPS software available for iPads fitted with it is incredibly useful if you have a need for both topographic and street mapping for your travels. Make sure you go 3G because then you get that GPS.

Leon,
Not sure how many photos you might end up with, but being on permanent vacation, I could envisage you might be likely to have 1000's.
If you had 3000 that would be 2GB on the old iPad but more like 6-7GB on the new one, now add a few short videos straight off the camera I could see it adding up pretty quickly.
Any eBooks or magazine subscriptions, maybe some video/podcasts of all the 101 astronomy series ?
You'll have a better idea than me, but you never know just how much you might like this thing and how you will end up using it in ways you never expected or realised existed.
I'd at least go the next size up to the one you have calculated.

Yep that's what we do, use the phone as a wireless hot spot via the Bluetooth link to the iPad and yeh I'd go the 32 gig to be safe.

Others have mentioned this Leon ... I have a an iPadII non 3G ... if I want to use it away from wifi access points I just set up my mobile as an access point and log into it from the IpadII ... best of both worlds. The generates a password and you just type that it to gain access.
I dont know what its like now but the difference between 3G and not was significant when I bought mine.
Enjoy your travels mate

I've only used the 3G option when on visits back to Oz...
not cheap!
But then again I suppose all those 3G phone users are already used to their bills???
