Floods

Just been advised by the early warning network that Roma is about to get a flood peak of 8.1 meters in our creek, similar to the march 2010 levels. Council and SES are out at the moment giving out sandbags to low lying houses etc. We will be ok as our house is 2 meters above the march level but still had 400mm under the house. Just been busy rescuing motorbikes washing machine etc. We are the local evacuation center for the street. Now to sit back and watch our waterfront views

No problems keeping dry. The flood levels would have to reach 11 meters to flood inside the house but only 8 m to reach under our house.
I really think that Qld as seen enough flooding and earthquakes.
Just had a pre recorded message from EWN on 4 phones in the house 3 mobiles and house phone keeping us up to date. Expected flood peak of 8.1 meters around 1pm today.

Well SES started sandbagging our house to protect equipment under. They got 1/2 way went to get more bags and the road was cut behind them. Took a walk to the creek around the corner from us and watched the creek noticeably rise while we were stood there probably 100mm in less than 5 mins.

Flood arrived outside my place water is pouring down the road and starting to enter our yard rapidly. Horrible feeling watching it happen but nothing we can do. Fortunately all of the gear under the house is moved to higher ground. Pix to follow.

We've just come out of floods. Not as bad as Q'land gets, granted, but the rest of the country was cut off from us for three days.

Well the waters arrived very quickly and as now started to recede. This time we only had 100mm of water under the house so most things are safe only the heavier things were at the mercy of mother nature. No power although it looks like the energy co is turning power to selected areas as the water goes down. Hmmmmm BBQ dinners are nice.

PhotoD visitors trying to escape but police turned them back as there was no where to go

And sadly my obs site

wont be usably for about a week. We see lots of snakes ranging from 8" to about 18" and we could have gone fishing from the verandah as there was fish in the street.

No gear lost most of our gear was put up high and on our trailer the only thing in water was the washing machine for the second time. Had it checked bt electrician and all ok.
