First Snow

Looks like the first snow of the season has fallen on Mt Bogong (Vic).

This is a very early start to the cold season here in Mt Beauty. I knew it had been cold but didn't realise how cold until the clouds parted this evening revealling Bogong with a reasonably good cover and if the BOM can be believed there is more to come.

Well, that's a sight to gladden the ole heart
Cool down the ground for the rest to accumulate.
Actually, up there isn't a good place to be in a blizzard (from firsthand experience).

I'm getting the impression of a long cold winter.

Still if it's dry and clear then it's bearable.

Hi. Quite a few people in my area are predicting a "hard" winter, although they seem to say the same thing every year!

At the beginning of April I had about 30 cm of snow on the ground around the observatory, although it only lasted a few days as the ambient temperature mostly stayed above minus five.

The night time temperatures are dropping like bears out here.
Time to pull out the winter woolies.

The big plus with winter coming in is cold clear nights, long nights, and it also means the growth of the grass will slow and stop which will be the biggest plus as all I have done this summer is cut grass.
Hooray.
