Lenticular galaxies in Hydra ngc5078-5101

Hi all...
Put some colour to these two interesting galaxies last night.
The framing looks a little... awkward but tried to fit in what I could.

While being both classified as lenticular, this is where the similarities ends.
Ngc5078 is edge on and ngc5101 is face on. There's a bit more of a write up on

I have been looking at this and your other Hyrda galaxy cluster. Man they are 2 really nice images. Your best so far?

Wonderful. Such nice colour and detail. Great star colours.

Are your skies really dark? Spectacular images Rich. Really nice.

Very nice Rich. A lovely pair of galaxies with so many in the background. As Greg has stated your skies must be wonderful, maybe just a bit of inversion from the sea. Not having a huge city close by must be a big plus. The skies here are dark but the thermals from the surrounding hills soon ruin what should be great.

The image seems to have a slight haze to it and I just wonder if it is moisture in the air around you.
I still love what a big newt can produce.

Just wonderful. I can't get enough of these deep galaxy fields. Very well done, and the processing is superb. I also very much like the subtle, but distinct, colours.

Thanks Greg... I think I've finally got the measure of what this camera likes in the way of processing... what it needs.
Yes, my skies can be pretty epic at times, although they arn't as good as they use to be when I first started visually back 18 years ago. Bit hit and miss now so with the bennifit of an observatory it helps no end!. still, I have to limit my imaging from south (usually where the wind comes from at night) around to the north so keeping things on the east side of the mount as gem flipping will expose me to the ever increasing town lights to my west.

Yes as explained to Greg, my skies when they are good are very good. However and as you observed, and I noticed as well, the stars are fairly fuzzy, this depicting the conditions on both nights. There has been a fair amount of surf around here in the past week and with the evening southerly winds, this tends to bring it back on land here. Generally there's a layer up to 40 degrees that can be quite unsettled. The out of season rains have made for lots of growth and this has helped keep the dust down this year.. Generally summer here is just dusty and hot... many times not real good for imaging.

Here is a question, how far back in time do you think your getting in this pic??? If NGC 5078 is 94 million light years away, the really small ones in the distance must be pushing a billion.

Thanks Migel, they certainly are two very interesting galaxies for sure with such differing morphologies..
Yes, I am very happy with the combo at the mo. Fast scopes is good my friend
Might venture down the road of an OAG soon though... just about had enough with weight discrepancies
