G11/Gemini plus shaft encoders

I currently have a G11 with a standard digital drive that I use with an Argo Navis / shaft encoders.

I am thinking about upgrading to Gemini, and I have noticed that you can connect the shaft encoders to the Gemini so that it will retain pointing info if it is pushed as well as when moved with the motors.

My question is: Is this a useful thing to have, or should I just sell the encoders with the Argo??

Cheers
Adam

I don't know about the new G2 but on the G1, people were strongly advised to disable the encoders due to conflicts with the Gemini. The add-on encoders had nowhere near the resolution of the Gemini servo motors and the Pointing Model was compromised.

As I said, don't know about the new G2.

Cheers

the encoders I have are the 8400 step ones that come from Wildcard Innovations when you order Argo for the G11. I'm not sure what the Losmandy DSC one were....?

I originally bought encoders with my G11, had them fitted, and to put it bluntly, they were crud, did not work at all, had all sorts of conflicts with Gemini, I sent them back and got a refund as apparently Losmandy knew they would not work..nice of them to say so hey...

The encoders from WildCard are the stock Losmandy units, the Gemini Servo motors are up around 10000 or more steps from memory.

I had them on my G1 when I first got it. Soon took them off and put them on the GM8 with the digital drive
