M42 with DSI

Had abit of clear sky tonight so decided to take a few shots at Orion. Nothing like Houghy's or Tornado's but i gave it a go anyway. Still a newbie.

Time to invest in a canon 350d

I think you've done very well for a newbie.
Great capture for only 20 seconds.

Well done Ezy.
Now you're hooked.........

Well done Eric. You've got some great detail in that shot!

Do you have software that lets you stack images (that is, combine many images together)?

hey thanks guys just picking up skills from the masters like yourselves thats all

Hey Adam, I only use RegiStax to stack video frames but don't have any software to stack individual images.

Using tracking now David forgot to answer your question there. Just got myself EQ6 with skyscan.

You're off and running now Ezy.

Better focus than I got on my first DSI shot.

If you have registax then you can stack individual images as well as video. But the DSI software will automatically stack images for you as you capture. Basically you have two choices with the software, stack as you go or save each image.

The way I understand it with stack as you go you set a minimum quality that has to be met and the program will automatically select those images that meet your quality settings and add it to previously selected images from the capture session.

If however you select save each image, once you've completed a session you import them into Registax en masse and treat them like an avie.

Hi Eric, actually with the Envisage software you don't have to make a choice! You can let Envisage stack the images as you go but you can save all uncombined images as well so that you will have an image at the end of the captures and all the images you took will be saved for later processing.

When I am using the DSI I let Envisage build up it's image but I also save all images. The stacked image that Envisage comes up with can be a bit of an indicator as to how the imaging has gone. Remember, though, if you are going to let Envisage stack that you have to draw a tracking box (or two if you want to try Drizzle) around a star.
