I'm selling my modified Canon 350D as I have upgraded to a CCD camera. I've been very happy with this camera, but want to be able to do narrowband imaging from the suburbs - I just don't get out to dark skies often enough.
I bought the camera second-hand from an IIS member last year. Soon after, I had it modified by Eric Ezystyles with a Baader Filter. I have had no problems with the camera.
It is an 8 megapixel APS chip (3456x2304 pixels, 6.4 microns). Don't discount the older chip - the newer ones just pack more pixels into the same size chip, so the pixels are just smaller. It doesn't have liveview - but I've never missed it, having done all focusing with a Bahtinov Mask. Have a look at my images below to see what can be achieved (happy to e-mail higher resolution versions to genuinely interested purchasers).
The extras include:
1. Genuine Canon AC adaptor - useful for long exposures and adds the benefit of reduced heat buildup within the camera that occurs when batteries are discharged. This helps reduce electronic noise.
2. Genuine Canon Battery Grip - this comes with two trays, one for 2 camera batteries and one for 6 AA batteries - I have used 2500mAh NiMh batteries and they lasted for 6-8 hours of long exposures.
3. Shoestring Astronomy DSUSB box - required for this camera to take exposures >30sec with a computer. 3 metre shutter and USB cables are included
4. T-adaptor
5. Programable Timer Remote - an easy way to take a series of long exposures without the need for a computer
6. Charger and six batteries - these are a bit old with consequently reduced capacity.
For full disclosure, the camera works perfectly under Windows XP. There are no drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. I could connect to the camera using XP mode under Windows 7, but not the DSUSB interface (so exposures would be limited to 30sec). I have no idea how many shutter actuations there have been.
I paid $400 for the camera and another $400 for the modification. I have added the T-Adaptor and Timer Remote ($50).
I'm after $650 including registered postage within Australia. I am open to some negotiation, but if the camera doesn't sell, I'll have a go at wide-field time-lapse shots.
