What's Up for March ? My Painting , the Sun and Mercury.

I am really delighted and honoured to have one of my paintings inspired by the sun on the NASA Solar System Exploration page this month.

Your paintings and sketches are wonderful, Deirdre!
Very inspiring and I think the work you do as an educator of young children is fantastic.

My five year old granddaughter gets very excited when she looks at the moon through my scope. You've given me a new activity to do with her.

Thankyou very much for those links.

You have piqued my interest in trying some drawings of the sky, Deirdre. I have tried a few times in the past, but have not been persistent with it.

Your renditions of Luna are truly beautiful. There are SO MANY nuances of grey. I love the injection of subtle silvery-blue tones.

Keep up the fantastic work!

Thanks

Thanks bunches Robert , Molly and Rod. I am amazed that my work in outreach is known about down here and thanks so much for the compliments on my drawing and painting.

Rod I bought all the grey pastels and Conte crayons I could find to match as many lunar gray tones as I could. Have a go of the moon on black paper , pick something ( the choice is HUGE ) draw the dark shadows first , observe the shapes they make , then add middle tones and finally any brighter bits like high areas within the terminator.

Molly keep going with the young kids , they will surprise you by how much they learn by doing simple drawings.

Robert thanks for the Monet reference , that made me smile from ear to ear :-)

Deirdre

Very impressive. I think more of van Gogh's Sunflowers!
