Jupiter & Saturn 25th from tassie

What a night.

Started out with horrible twinkling for stars at 11pm, got up at 1.30pm and it was 5 or 6/10, so took a couple vids of saturn. got back up at 4.30am and watch it evolve from say 6/10 to 8 or 9/10. Did not want to move, breathe or do anything to make the seeing conditions change.

temps were stable at 7.5 degrees. I have taken video at 10fps, 15fps and 5fps and then because on the screen, it looked like 8 out of 10 frames were steady, i jumped into raw mode and then stood there breathless looking at the improvement on the screen. Io had transitted, but was still visible at the gain / exposure settings.

Well, i have lotsa video to process. Here are a 320x240 saturn, a 320x240 at a couple of wavelets settings jupiter and the first of the 640x480 at a couple of wavelets settings. they have all been run through registax to get a feel for the night. The seeing improved after these. you can see IO in the 640 x 480 at about 10 oclock

Joy Joy Joy. My best best catches

Very nice Dave!

Is that not only colour on Io but phase also, or just a little blurring giving that appearance???

Anyway, great shots. Can't wait to see the fully processed efforts

here is a single image of the raw mode frames from the avis.

lovely stuff to work with, at times, the image hardly varied from this in sharpness and shape as the movie was taken.

seeing is king!

Fantastic result Dave, easily your best.

Seeing is king, tracking helps That raw frame looks really good and is an indication of the good conditions you had.

I hope the conditions are as good at Lostock this weekend!

Top stuff.

Those last six are great Davo, I particularly like the top left one. Guess what colour I am. You are very lucky, we have had in Adelaide area nothing better than 4/10 for at least 6 months. I am so sick of this seeing that I am contemplating moving to another state on the east or west coast. Adelaide seems to constantly get crap seeing. Either I move or I sell all my scopes and pack it in. Sorry just venting some spleen.

vent away my friend, but please download anything from that link to have a slight easing of the "crap weather" syndrome.

I do feel guilty a bit, you guys in SA don't seem to get the good ones!!

here a more serious attempt from one from the rgb tiffs.

400 frames of the 600 was around 90% in registax. medium wavelets, some unsharp masking etc

this is going to take a while to get a nicely finished product!
