An NGC6334 repro - Calibrated Monitor Test, opinions sought

Hello everyone!

Yes the clouds are back in Brisbane so here I am reprocessing more data...

The last couple of nights I have been working on my NGC6334 data that I took back in June last year. As what seems to be the norm at the time, my last efforts were very contrasty. This time however, I've tried to keep the contrast to a minimum.

In the process of doing just that I realised that the shape of the visible part of the nebula was actually determined by dark lanes of dust in front of NGC6334. So I attempted to highlight the dust and make it stand out and the end result is attached below. I think it looks OK!

I like the colour and detail.

I'll get my mother and aunts to be in a good word with the Greek Saints as well for you.

Thanks for your kind comments!! I had a bit of a problem with the colours in that there is a tad too much green still in the image. However I needed the green to highlight the dust in front of the nebula. As soon as I reduced it the dust went almost black and that wasn't what I was trying to achieve!

As for the Greek Orthodox saints answering my prayers, I'm open to all and sundry if it gets rid of the clouds! Yasou!!!

Now for a favour - this evening I've calibrated my monitor using a Spyder 4 Express and I was wondering if someone who has also calibrated their monitor could let me know which image looks better. The first image is the calibrated one and the second is identical to that which was originally attached to this thread (it was pre-calibration).

I guess what I'd like to know in which one the dust is better highlighted. I'm not too concerned about the green tinge that is present...

Hey Mario - I have calibrated my monitor using the procedure recommended by the David Malin Awards website (link here: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/). To me your post calibration image shows the dust lanes up much more clearly on my monitor
