The Carnegie Atlas of Galaxies (Volumes I and II)
Sandage A. / Bedke J.
The time has come for me to sell my beautiful Carnegie Atlas of Galaxies so that I can continue accessorising. I purchased this two volume set brand new from the USA in 1994 when they were printed in a limited run. As an amateur astronomer, I couldn't resist purchasing this ultimate galaxy reference set. Having said that, since 1994, these two volumes have laid flat packed on their own shelf in a cupboard away from light. These books have never been stored on their edges, and have been opened perhaps three times since 1994 (shame on me). They're in absolutely mint condition and have been stored in my smoke free and pet free home since new.
The Carnegie Atlas of Galaxies is essentially the ultimate pictorial galaxy reference set. Each page pair is divided into a detailed description page, and a detailed photo page. Some photos are depicted as black on a white background to show more detail. The set comprises 340 panels, taken with the worlds largest telescopes, accompanied by technical reference and sorted by galaxy classification. It is the culmination of years and years of galaxy research and photography.
As noted in the preface of volume 1, this two volume atlas has been made to accompany and supplement A Revised Shapley-Ames Catalog of Bright Galaxies. It also extends, refines, and more completely illustrates the galaxy classification system set out in The Hubble Atlas of Galaxies.
The binding on these two volumes is as tight as the day I purchased them, and there are absolutely no dog eared or otherwise marked pages. The covers are all in completely original condition as well. These two volumes even still have the original new book smell, as they have remained closed since new.
This is a very heavy set, weighing 11kg.
I'm happy to quote shipping with a signature service such as TNT or Hunter Express (or Fastways for Sydney siders, which is only $4.70) should any prospective purchaser prefer a more secure and cheaper shipping method than Australia Post. Alternatively, pickup is also available in Warwick Farm, NSW (near Liverpool).
