pixinsight 1.6 released - for those that care ;)

just a quick note that pixinsight 1.6 has been released. Note now there is an extended trial period now of 45 days instead of 30Days.

http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=1804.0 descripes the new features.

I am wrapped in this software - it is pretty good and i virtually exclusively use it for all of my processing - with the exception of resizing for the forum - use photoshop for that.

Give it a go, you will be glad you did.

I've found the old PixInsight LE to be quite handy, however since it's a bit dated (and no longer availabe?) I have been looking into purchasing the full version. Maybe it's time

I downloaded v1.6 the other day David, and it's a decent little upgrade. I've yet to get my teeth fully around PixInsight, and need to visit the tutorials properly one day.

The thing I do like about it is that once you've bought the commercial license, you are entitled to run it on as many devices (Win, OSX or Linux) that you like - and they all share the one license file legitimately.

That true Chris, I don’t know of many applications that do that? The video tutorials are gold - they helped me immensely

Yes I really like the DBE feature, I have tinkered around with a fair bit just to understand how to get the best out of it. Originally I was being too brutal with the creation of the background image, subsequently it was stealing good data when I did the subtraction in Pixel Math. I have also noticed with each image it can be different too, so the level of DBE I applied to the previous image, may not necessarily work with the current image I'm working on. However, its still worth using

I recently watched the video tutorials on the PixInsight website, and they go down deeper than my current level of processing skills - particularly the with the noise processing. This is a good thing though, as it will keep me quite busy with so much to learn Not to mention the load of other tools available in the software I'm still yet to discover.

I'm 10 days into a trial licence, and pleasantly surprised to see 1.60 come out exactly on time with the image cal features promised. Still messy compared to DSS, but the image processing tools are awesome. Very impressive software.

Suspect I'll have to fork out when the time comes.
Was thinking of trialing CCDStack too, but suspect I have more to gain on the processing side than stacking/basic processing.

I've never really taken the time to get into IP, but I think PI will be worth it just for the DBE, deconv and wavelet tools. Interface takes some getting used to, but seems to "feel right" too. Time will tell.

Have been watching your PI adventures with interest too David.

Yeah - don't worry Al - they'll get back to you. It took a couple of days for me when I bought the commercial license a few months ago.

I just upgraded my copy. Now all I have to do is learn how to drive it. So bloody complicated. Really hard to walk away from photoshop which I am used to and spend the time required to learn this one.

Hi h0ughy,

We have sent five duplicates of Alan's license instructions email; three from our @pixinsight.com corporate email accounts and two from an emergency Gmail account. What happens is that Alan's email is @yahoo.com.au, and all of our messages are systematically rejected. This has been happening for some time, but the different thing is that now Yahoo is also rejecting our Gmail messages. Oh well...

If you could ask Alan to please provide us with a different (not Yahoo) email address, you would save me the task of sending him his license instructions via ordinary mail.

We definitely have a serious problem with Yahoo. I'm going to include a note on the purchase page; there is already one on the trial license request page.

Thanks, and I really apologize for the inconvenience.
