Thumbs up Eye Floaters

As someone who has quite a few of these, I found this very interesting.

Being very shortsighted my eyes have been full of them since childhood- I never really see them until I think about them - my brain seems to edit them out . Now this post has reminded me of them again ( I don't think I have even thought of them in the last year -I wonder how it is I live with so many of them They are pushed across my vision during eyeball moves then drift down across it when I stare at anything - white surface makes them really obvious!

They are the reason I do astro imaging instead of visual astronomy. They obscure the faint fuzzies.

I couldn't read the article - the floaters were in the way...

Very interesting - often wondered what those pesky things were (near-sighted as well as old!). Thanks jjjnettie!

Cheers -

I suspect that it is not quite correct or that there are other process that produces them. I have had them since I was young and so have others that I have spoken to about them.

Me too!! Certainly better than the topic, unless of course you get one in the eye.

Oh no not peas again ? Yuck!

Strangely enough only seem to I get the very occasional one or two I seem to notice almost immediately when they occur. But, as at today I can't remember having seen one for at least a several months. Just had a good check staring at a bright, evenly illuminated cloudy sky for several minutes (focus -- de-focus etc etc) and ... not a one.

In my late 40s, I guess I'm just lucky!

Best,

Les D

I had a bunch of floaters appear suddenly a few years ago. It turned out to be Retinoschisis, a separation of the layers of the retina like a little blister. Fortunately, it wasn't in a position that affected my vision and it's not normally a progressive condition. Still, the floaters were annoying until I learned to mostly tune them out. I still occasionally think I see a mosquito or fly out of the corner of my eye!

Cheers,
Rick.

A great read. Thanks for posting! I have always wondered what caused the phenomenon and if I was alone.

Bugger. Mis-read it too. Thought it was about pie-floaters. I'm hungry now.

Yep, had them since I can remember. 3 in the left, 2 in the right. If you quickly look down & then back to center (while viewing through the EP) a few times will help.

Thanks JJJ,

A few weeks ago I ended up in the PA hospital after experiencing bright flashes (no, not supernova on the brain) in my right eye followed next morning by floaters then thousands of pinpoint black dots. They checked me for retina detachment all was ok. But now I have the floaters and have generally been able to ignore them but they are back as I write this. guess I have them permanent.
