observations with my 10 inch astrophotographic scope
Hi all.
Cleaned both primary and secondary mirrors of my 10 inch f5.6 newtonian. Recently some star images have been odd shaped during focussing indicating a deformed mirror. It seems to be the secondary, I had too much packing behind it. After cleaning I took some of it out and now shows great star images. Both mirrors overcoated and now absolutely pristine.
tested it on m42 visually, first with 16mm nagler then 4.8mm nagler. Seeing wasnt great but I could clearly see airy discs jumping around in the seeing, along with 6 Trapizium stars. A faint hint of red in some areas of m42 with the 16mm nagler.
Eta Carina neb. Fainter stars pin sharp with the 16mm, bright ones suffering from the seeing a little but round. With the 4mm, the Humunclus Nebula showed some mottling detail.
Its a long time since Ive done any visual observing, its a nice thing to do for a change, and with the 4mm nagler allows the Sutching primary mirror to work to potential.
