#1220 Meade Field De-Rotator
Hi All,
If anyone has a field de-rotator to suit a 10-inch LX-200, and it is in good nick and you want to move it on, please PM me, and let me know what you would like for it.
Thanks.

I wish you luck with this one. I tried for over a year to find a De-Rotator. All I got was loads of people advising me I was waisting my time. However most of the advice as kind as it was, came from people that had never used or often even seen one. In more recent times people have also been suggesting that they are no longer made. This statement is also untrue. I purchased mine in the USA 12 months ago and did not work when I got it home. I have now had it replaced by Meade in the USA and had to wait till they had stocks to do so. You can order these new via Bintel of purchase online at Scope City in the USA. The dollar is strong at the moment so some good prices are to be had. I would have to say that a Wedge may give you better results on very long exposures, but I have had good results (that I am happy with) using my De-Rotator. It's fast simple and great when you don't have a perm setup. I have both options and like the choice and challenge of using either. I would give Bintel a call for a current price, you migh get a supprise. I purchased mine for less than the last used one I saw sold. You will also have the knowing that is new and that it works...

I was keen on a field de-rotator in years gone by for my LX200GPS 10". Mostly the advice I received was as Martiin noted - get a wedge. I already had a wedge at the time but was looking for what I thought would be the easy way out for longer exposures.
Eventually I set my wedge up and have never looked back. I guess some of it depends on your skies. If your skies are washed out, maybe you can't get the long exposures that a wedge would allow, and alt-az with or without a de-rotator would get you all the exposure time you need.

Thanks for the replies.
Because my setup is not permanent, and I am not really looking for the 1 hour exposures, just bundles of 1-10 minute ones, I thought a #1220 would be a good option.
Generally, I take my scope out on my own so a wedge can be an extra burden for me. A de-rotator will be a quick setup, and should give adequate results.
Martin, thanks. I have seen them in the Bintel shop online, which is actually what piqued my curiosity in the first place.
I have *just* missed out on a #1220, just on an off-hand enquiry. I'll keep looking, there must be one out there somewhere.
Failing that, I'll go into Bintel and get a new one. Online price in under $700.

I did have a guy on Ice in Space that did have one he was thinking of selling back in June. He asked me what I wanted to offer for it.. Hi user ID on Ice in Space is jamiep you should look him up and send him a personal mail.. He said he had a new one lying arund in his office and was using a wedge. He wanted to know what I wanted to pay, but I had already located mine in the USA... Might be a good lead..

Thank you, Martin.
I have contacted Jamie, and we will see where it goes from there.
In the meantime, still looking.
