Floodwater reflections: Beauty and Destruction

Hi all,

We were very lucky and our house was not flooded this week (although we were without power for 2 days), but dozens of houses just around the corner were not so lucky .

Thought I'd post a few images taken in nearby streets over the last 2 days. The first 4 were taken early on Thursday morning, and it was sunny, perfectly still and very quiet (as all nearby roads were cut). As you can see from the photos, the reflections in the floodwaters were amazing, despite the underlying devastation. It was a very strange feeling seeing this. The last 2 images were today, and show the resulting destruction as the waters receeded. The 5th one shows the water level (marked by the yellow arrow). I spent several hours today helping clear out all the mess from a house who's occupants I had never met, with lots of other people I'd never met (image 6). The community spirit was fantastic, and these poor people lost almost everything. It's certainly been an experience I will not forget!

Cheers,
Stephen

Image 2 is surreal.

Glad to hear you're OK.

That letterbox on the far left hand side of image 2 (in the shade) belongs to a good friend of mine. They were lucky as ony the bottom level of their place was flooded. A couple of houses along it was almost as high as the ceiling!

Cheers,
Stephen
