Australian Sky & Telescope Magazine- Referencing Past Articles.

I'm trying to find a couple of articles in my Australian Sky & Telescope magazines, and despite needing to dig through only the last 6 months, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I was wondering if anyone had a method of being able to quickly reference the articles within a given magazine. I hear Astronomy magazine from time to time does a list of them in the magazine - wouldn't it be great if AS&T did that as well?! Or even better - wouldn't it be great if they had an on-line referencing facility.

The index, which I've maintained from issue 1, also includes a listing of observing targets which you can return to time after time. AS&T these days has many pages of observing advice to keep you busy.

Although we no longer store back issues older than 12 months, I'm thinking of having a reminder in the magazine about previously published observing columns that are relevant for the season. I certainly enjoy diving into observing features past and present.

of that quarter similar to the USA version

A shorter list would be much easier to help find things.

I think that's a terrific idea. I thoroughly enjoy the seasonal observing articles, in particular, Les' Binocular highlights. It would be such a shame to let them go forgotten, and it would also be a great source for new readers who are still able to get back issues to catch up on these delights.

The on-line reference link to your index is a wonderfully compiled and organised list, and I particularly like the extensive list of observing topics - nice work.

I'm just wondering, if back issues older than 12 months are not being stored whether older issues could be made available in PDF format at a moderate resolution so it's not too large.

Good to know somebody reads 'em. Thanks for the feedback. I don't get a lot of feedback (positive or negative) on things I've written and as I've said to you before Suzy, sometimes its nice to know someone out there is casting an eye over something you've worked hard on. I'm sure Greg feels the same way about the considerable work he does on the magazine. Believe me, it isn't as easy as it looks to get it all looking as schmick as it does and Greg is doing a fab job on maintaining a very high quality in the publication and getting it out on time, every time.

While Greg hasn't been the editor for all 50 issues, I think it is noteworthy in particular that not one issue has been late. Not a single one! Accuse me of being a sycophant if you will but thumbs up Greg!

I`ve done it the hard way. I`ve ripped up years of astronomy magazines, discarded the ads, and filed the useful articles in various categories in a huge tub. At first it took a long time because there were years of magazines to file. Now it`s easy and when I want to find an article on--whatever--I just retrieve it from its specific folder. It`s great. I understand what you`re going through!
