Rough M42 widefield from the Astro 40D

Hello all,
Tracking problems plagued my M42 attempt - also the 70-200mm f4L IS + 1.4x Ext isn't a perfect marriage.

Soft stars, CA, blown out core - Baaahhh!!! Whatever!!!!

Astro 40D (running around -13ºC)
Canon 70-200mm f4L IS + 1.4x Extender
FL=280mm, iso1600, f5.6

Rough, but with a certain potential!!

(slightly)Higher Res...

So cool how everyone gives their own little twist to an old favorite! This one's got a funky 'electric' feel to it - I like it!

I did a quick fix of (some) of the CA issues and ran it through a field flattener - hope you don't mind!

No worries Ivo - fire away!

Bit of a lost cause this one - but I enjoyed the fact that the cooled DSLR allows me to stretch the image enough to bring out the gas/dust.
Made the mistake of using an aperture mask over the lens at the expense of fine detail - and redundant due to tracking/CA problems.

That Astro40D seems to be keeping its cool. Would like to see what it can do on the Witchhead. Craig
