Well after initially surviving the heart attack after finally seeing some sky I decided to try my hand at a Mosaic.
I took 50 minutes of exposure on each panel (2) in Ha and tried my hand at putting it together in Photoshop. I used Registar to align the two panels with the rest done in PS CS4.
I was pleasantly surprised at the end result, considering this is my first attempt at a mosaic.
details:
Camera: Atik 11002M
Filter: Baader 7nm Ha
Panels: 2 only
Exposure: 50 min each panel in 10 min subs
Telescope: Takahashi FSQ106ED at F5
Mount: G11 guided with QHY5 and WO 70mm
Beautifully sharp Doug. The horse and flame are exquisite and loads of detail in the outer detail in M42. The core is a bit clipped, though I'll leave it to greater heads to offerr advice. As a mosaic it is definitely a success. Well done.
Stunning! The FSQ is a great scope hey? There's plenty of Ha in there between the HH and Orion. You can push the data harder and it will show all the way. Good stuff.
Well, well, well, a victorian with a clear sky...... Almost unheard of.
Stitched together nicely, I have watched with interest some of these mosaics done of late, they all seem to be done with the 106 tak , which brings me to my question.
Do the panels stitch seamlessly due to a flat field or do you have to tinker at the edges, I tried some years ago with the 12 inch newt but it didn't overlay exactly, and I had to erase the duplicate stars to some degree, and although you may not notice at first look, if you were to check carefully you'd find the misalignments. I haven't yet done one with the Williams but may have a bash if the skies ever improve.
Is it your first mosaic? congratulations, it is really wonderfull field and the mosaic is well done, I think is not easy to do it.

Thanks Fabiomax, yes it is my first attempt at a mosaic and I was very pleased with the result, I just hope I can do it again when I try for something a bit larger with more panels. Blending the join was not the easiest thing I have done but it seemed to work OK.
