Power Outage

We've had a heat wave in Perth for the last week temperatures over 35 degrees expected 40 for tommorow and with it goes the inevitable power outages

I have a rear projection TV which has been working fine for a number of years but since the power oustages it appears the blue channel may now be misaligned as blue swirling lines are appearing on the screen and images have blue ghosting

I turned off the TV from the mains unplugged it and left it for several minutes before turning it abck on again, images appeared to still have some blue ghosting but after a while the swirling lines came back

Any ideas

JB HI FI currently has a 50" HD LG Plasma for $941 delivered... does that help?

Not really but I'd buy LCD before plasma

If you really think it is because of the power outages then you should be able to claim the cost of repair or replacement from western power. That's what my neighbor has told me. He works for western power. I think he has claimed a few such devices/defects.

It sounds like one of the convergence thingos (sorry dont know the name) has gone. It happened to us a few months ago. It is really easy to fix. You just have to locate the convergence circiuts or (we googled convergence and the tv model and found a site with pics showing where they were). In our tv I think we had 3 and in our case it was the Blue one which was broken Replacement parts were 65 dollars in our case. The repair shop said we really should replace all of them but I was a bit short of money at the time so just went with the one. You probably will also need some of that heat sink glue (get it from a computer store about 15 bucks a tube) as well. and all you need to do is solder the new part in and reassemble the tv.

Ours has been going now for about 4 months with no problems. It can be repaired by a shop but will probably cost more than it would to buy a new TV.
