Thanks so much guys. Initially I was totally devasted when I was waiting down at the beach for the moon to rise and all I could see was clouds, clouds and more of them.
Half an hour after the predicted time for mid-eclipse (thanks Mike for posting the details here on IIS) I went home, poured me a glass of wine and was about to call it a day. On a final look at the sky from my backyard I thought a horse had kicked me. Quickly I ran back in and grabed my cam and the tripod and started shooting. After the first few shots and a billion mozzy bites later I realised that I had something better than a 270mm lens for this task and ran for the Newton and the CG4. In no time I put it all together and started shooting again (no pol align, no tracking-and a nasty scratch as I fell over a flower pot in the dark).
The first 4 shots were done when I realized that something was wrong. They just weren´t anywhere close to sharp. I tried everything: delayed exposures, not stepping on the deck, mirror lock up.....then it dawned on me: 15sec at ISO 100 without tracking is just not going to work

So up the ISO and down with the exposure time.
That was exactly 30sec before the little hole in the cloud cover disappeared.
I went to bed as a happy man...
