Windows Vista not loading

Anyone use an Acer Aspire laptop and had to use their Recovery Disk to fix a Windows problem. A friend of mine opened an attachment on Facebook and now Windows Vista will not load...it just opens to a screen that gives you two options..one to fix windows and the other to just load windows...neither option results in the computer booting up into Windows. I have tried to restore to an earlier restore date before her computer crashed but that hasn't worked. Now the only option is to use the restore disks that were created when she first setup the laptop. My question is where do you get the prompt to install the recovery disk on an Acer Aspire running Windows Vista..I have tried F2 to get into the BIOS and F8 to get into Safe Mode but I am stuck

On power up Hold down the alt key and hold it down whilst pressing the F9 key. I sometimes hold down the alt key and keep pressing the F10 and then the F9 key repeatedly. You may hear some beeps. The system should go into recovery mode. No disks needed
