When you see "Astronomy" everywhere

I found this message on my wall on Facebook: (I'll try to translate it)

"Do you know what's wonderful? Existing 1 Universe, 9 planets, 7 oceans, 204 countries and 11 billions of people, I have the pleasure to meet you. I love you."

Do you know what was my answer? Again I'll try to translate:

In fact there're 8 planets. Pluto has been degraded in 2006 by the Internation Astronomical Union. And that's in the Solar System only. You must also add at least 500 hundred extrasolar planets.

Is this normal or I should see a doctor? Happens to you too? Lol.

Cheers, Luis.

It's the first thing I thought of too, don't worry. I couldn't stop myself if I tried it's just like the compulsion to spell check everything anyone says.

+1 for me Shell,

Pedagogue is the term for it. Can't help myself correcting spelling mistakes. Should have been an editor...

Cheers

I would have let that pass - about the only thing I can't tolerate is the inane Uranus jokes. Adults employing 5yo wees/poos humor is not a good look.

Never mind the number of planets, where are the other 5 billion people living if there is only supposed to be around 6 billion here in Earth at the moment? Think about it...

Yep, I picked up on that one too

There are so many incorrect items in this message.

'9 Planets'
No, there are now 8 planets and 3 known minor planets (or Dwarf Planets),

The term '7 oceans'.
There are only 5 'oceans' on Earth, but approximately 100 'seas'.

'204 countries'
It is generally accepted that as of today's date there are currently 196 countries on Earth.

'11 billions of people'
There are currently 6.8 billion people alive on Earth:

Spot the astro-anomaly ...

Hi All,

I know exactly what you mean. It's perfectly normal ... but only for "us"!

I remember this ad in particular:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-ex96TjdDg

for a well-known brand of bourbon on Australian television and cinema back in the 90's. When I watched it for the first time (at the cinema I might add) I identified a glaring astronomical anomaly (and instantly blurted it out loudly with laughter -- much to my wife's chagrin). It has annoyed the dickens out of me every time I've watched it since.

It's not too hard to work out. Are you a true astro-nerd? Can you spot it?

Best,

Les D

P.S If you can spot it, don't give it away in a post for those who haven't!

I think I should change the title... how about "How many mistakes can be commited in a single message?"

Lol. I believe lot of movies have this kind of mistakes. It's funny to see how people never get them. They live their whole life under the sky but know nothing about it...

Nice one Les,

Spotted it straight away, interesting how Siiiiiiiiiiiiimon and his mates at the ad agency have no clue when it comes to the real world.

Cheers

Hahaha, I agree. Every time I say I saw Uranus, I always get the same answer. "Oh, did you now!?" *snickers like a 5 year old with the "I'm-so-smart" face firmly in place*. Even my Mum had a giggle!
