Replacement Mirrors - GSO Newt.

It was in pretty rough shape when I bought it and now its worse so I want to replace the mirror on my 8" f5 GSO Newt. A recoating costs more than a new OEM mirror so I figured I'd split the difference and upgrade a bit - perhaps add a better cell. Outfits like Zambuto or Royce are a tad expensive at US$700-1000 and OOUK has a dodgy rep for their scope assemblies, though I don't know about their mirrors.
Any suggestions on where one can get a 1/6 + wave for around 500-700 AU$? Used is OK.
Thanks,
Peter

Hi d Peter ,
My experience of ATM is that what we build is ofen superior to what can be bought. It seems you are resigned to replacing the mirror but how well did it test. If it is 1/6 wave it may well be worth keeping! Most astronomy associations do a bulk order re-coat once a year with significant savings. Cheers Wes

Hey Zub.
I haven't tested it, but if its better than 1/4 wave I'd be seriously surprised!

Have you thought of asking Mark Suchting for a quote on re-figuring it. Not sure if he does that but he might be able to advise you on what to do.

Rod.

No. In all honesty I hadn't. I thought he just produced 12"+ Mirrors for the well-heeled cognecenti. I shall irritate him with an e-mail!
