PEC and CPC 1100

Hi,

I recently realised that I deleted my factory shipped PEC training from the my new CPC1100 using the PECTool software. This was done when I eagerly downloaded all the software form the Celestron Site that had anything to do with the CPC and without reading the manual first, put it through an 8 minute training cycle with the clutch undone, so now when I download the PEC data it's just a straight line along the bottom of the graph. Apparently if I had saved it first I could have restored it again woops!

My understanding is that PEC will only work when set in EQ mode and not Alt-Az?

So I understand now that I have three options....

- With a high magnification reticle eyepiece and the hand control - You can use rates 1 and 2 (photoguide rates) on the hand control to manually keep the star centered for 8 minutes.
- With a high magnification reticle eyepiece and a drive corrector unit - You can use a device that plugs into the autoguider port to move left/right to center the star while training.
- With an autoguiding CCD camera - Find the worm index, then autoguide on a star. Train while autoguiding to record the corrections.

Has anyone had success with the first manual option? is it actuate enough? Could I use my Hyperstar and EOS 550D in +5 or +10 zoom in liveview with good results? or do I need to setup the EOS using Primefocus? or am I going to need to purchase a "high magnification reticle eyepiece"?

Or will I need to get an Autoguider before I can resolve this to a satisfactory level?

actually, I think have found answers to most of my questions.

It looks like PEMPro will do a great job of creating a PEC without the need for guiding, a 60 day trials of PEMPro and 30Day of Maxim DL will allow me to do what I want.

Instructions for Celestron scopes using PEMPro http://www.siriusimaging.com/Help/PE.../celestron.htm

a post at cloudy nights showing good results using a CPC and PEMPro (+2.7/-2.6 arc second) http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthrea...l/fpart/1/vc/1

and a great thread on imaging with forkmount http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=52589

and from what I understand there may not have been a factory loaded PEC anyway.

I hope this is helpful for anyone interested in understanding howto use PEC on a CPC
