Jupiter on 29/1

Here's the last Jupiter from me for a while - this was taken at 5.19am this morning.

Composite of 300/700 frames in red,green,blue.

d=250mm, fl=6000mm, exp=40ms

The GRS has just rotated out of view to the southwest (bottom left).

regards, Bird

Nice detail Anthony. Is it pixel displacement causing the hard edge to the right?

Yeah, rotation artifact. This capture ran for about 90 seconds, long enough for that to show up :-(

Great detail Bird but I have a question , why are we not seeing a clearly defined edge? It seems the is quite a large amount of vignetting, what are you using to get these great shots?

Actually, I have a better one... This was data grabbed at 15fps, so there is less noise. This only works if the seeing is very steady becuse of the longer exposure for each frame,

David, I'm pushing my camera to its limit, so the lower light levels at the edge of the planet are problematic :-)

Now I'm wishing I had a 12" mirror instead of a 10", images would be a lot brighter, and I could capture detail right to the edge.

Maybe next year...

I definately prefer this one. It's a shame its so hard to get even illumination across the entire image.

Don't forget - Jupiter is showing a phase to us, so we can't see the western limb yet, not until opposition in April.
