Sounds like your shout come 5pm.
It certainly powered away incredibly at the end.
A friend use to tell me of his time as a trainee engineer with what is now Telstra and
what was then the Postmaster General (PMG). When the telephone exchanges still
used relays and electromechanical uniselectors, there would be this constant chatter
inside the exchange building of all these devices operating. He told me when you sat
in the exchange during the Melbourne Cup, then there would be increased chattering
leading up to the race then it would go nearly dead quiet during the race, finally
resuming to a flurry of chattering after the race.

Heck, even a rank (don't take the "rank" bit personally Mike, LOL) outsider like you can win Mike. My sweep pick is still running I think. And to think out the kitchen window we look at the 2001 winner occasionally (although she is currently in Oz on a fling with some stud fella).
Good win Mike,
Gary

I'm like Gary, my horse is due past the post any time now.
Actually I think he was passed by the horses running in the next race.
Oh well, there's always next year.
cheers

Nice one Mike! what did ya get??
Both my sweep horses at work had no luck....
But at the TAB, I did well for once!
Spent about $80 all up on win/places and some box trifectas, but the one that came up was the "Cup Combo" for $20 bet.
Basically you get 4 horses each with a $1 win/place bet and then a boxed trifecta (any three of the four horses come first second or third in any order) as well. This only pays 50% of the normal trifecta though.
The horses I picked were:
1 Shocking
3 So you think
8 Americain
24 Maluckyday
So basically I got the Win/Place for Americain, the place for Maluckyday and the place for So you think. AND, 50% of the payout for the Trifecta which paid $267 (so I got $133.50)
The wife also had $5 each way on Malucky day which returned $15 for the place.
All up for the $20 bet, I won $155 smackeroos
So I spent $80, won $170
NICE!
Dinner at the local for the family tonight!
Cheers
Chris

I won $84 in the sweep, for a $10 investment (2 horses in the $5 sweep).
It probably doesn't yet cover all the previous years of winning nothing in the sweeps

Nice Work!
8.4 return on investment
You are right about the overall debt, I think the Reserve bank rose interest rates because they finally figured out my bill for all the previous Melbourne Cups where I didnt win....
Cheers

I'm with you Mozzie - the only gambling I do is to whether or not setting up the scope for imaging pays off. Sometimes (or often lately), a night that is predicted by all to be a cracker turns out less than impressive!

Hmmmm,
Lucky day for moi. After stating earlier that I don't gamble, I discovered that my office entered me in a sweep without my knowledge and I won $4, apparently my entry fee was taken from petty cash! Now tonight, I have setup my scope for the first time in months and am doing some imaging in clear skies...
What's going on?

Won $30 as second prize in the work sweep and $21 on the TAB with So You Think coming in 3rd.
Once a year horse gambler.
And then spent it buying patches.
