Advise needed on photography project.

G'day all.

I've had an idea revolving around in my head for quite some time & seeing it's cloudy here & likely to remain that way in the near future, I decided to impliment this idea.

All these are my own shots taken over a period of a couple of years...except the earth shot (obviously).

So my question is how on earth (no pun intended) am I going to get a shot of the earth with my own camera

Yeah sure, I could just point the camera at a patch of dirt at my feet....hey presto...a picture of earth! But I don't think it would quite fit in with the rest of the picture, would it?

I've yet to get mercury (pretty easy) yet &.....pluto!? (12.5" newt + time exposures over a period of time, I assume)

Any ideas??

Very nice looking project asi, it looks great!

The photo of Earth is always going to be a tricky one, unless you book for a virgin galactic flight!

The pluto shot should be do-able, you just need to take a deep starfield shot of the area over a couple of nights and look for the moving "star". That's all it will look like - a star.

that is really good, i have missed neptune and uranus for this time, will have to wait for early morning later this yeat, but would love to do something similiar

Brilliant little project and image to boot. You might need the long exposure mod for the ol'd Toucam to get Pluto...? I managed to get Uranus, but have yet to image Neptune or Mercury.

For earth, hmmm, take a shot of your home and nearest and dearest and meld it into bluey greeny planetty disk - what's earth if not home sweet home anyway!

And you may want to get the planets in the right order aswell

Earth hmmmm, you could always take a joy flight and take some pics that way or make up a small frame anddo a map of earth using earth and water etc, and taking a pic of that then somehow superimpose that on a disk.

Good project though

My wife just said, how about taking a photo of a globe (the ones you see at school) maybe put it on a table or hang it have a light shining on one side and take a pic

Could be done at night for realism and dark background.

ok john, if you can get ina plane and take a pic down with a fisheye lens on the camera you will get some nice curvature..... how that?

The only thing I can suggest is if we do a joint project where you send me a roll of 110 film. I can then load it up into my imaging model rocket and I'll take a photo from the air. You can then use this as a photoshoped earth.
Obviously I won't be able to do this until bushfire season is well and truely past.

you can say that that damn pluto isn't a real planet and save yourself the trouble... otherwise you might have to add a few others Sedna and co out their in the Kuiper belt and you'll need some really serious hardware for those

just put in a photo of you or your head (the earthing) they rest is great, top effort! I like the foot idea - introduce some thought and perspective to a well choreographed photo montage

You have a point Rob_T! Why bother with pluto!?

I reckon the fish-eye lens is the ticket for the earth pic! I like the globe idea too Andrews wife!

John AsiPlanet,

There is a guy here at the Ballarat Airport who does Joy Flights in a StrikeMaster Fighter Jet! He will get you up high enough for an Earth shot.
You should get quite a remarkable curvature shot up very high!

P.S. Go for the Pluto shot! It's 2003UB313 (the 10th Planet) that will be hard to get!
