Scenic flight from Queenstown to Milford Sound

It has been rather cloudy at night here in Auckland lately. For some reason the clouds have decided to roll in just after sunset every time I've been ready to do some imaging...
But, this means I've instead finally gotten around to compile a video of a scenic flight from Queenstown to Milford Sound NZ which we did back in 2006. The scenery was absolutely spectacular and the weather was perfect.
None of the photos in the video have been processed in any way because I think they came out rather well and actually captured what we experienced.

The video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ackUlHy5sU

The flight itself from Queenstown to Milford Sound is highly recommendable. Soaring over and in between the high mountains is very much like the awesome "Lighting of the Beacons" scene from LOTR.
I've added a few stills from Milford Sound itself at the end of the video - Stirling Falls etc.

Hope you enjoy!

Regards,
Rolf

Rolf,

Paradise. I hope to call that place my home some day, soon. I've done the Tekapo scenic flight over Mount Cook and Mount Tasman, but, not the Queenstown to Mildford Sound. Next time.

That music was heavenly, too. What is it?

Ooh, a couple of lovely shots of my favourite waterfall, Stirling Falls, as well as Lady Bowen Falls.

Funny you post this, as I'm uploading my own scenic flight videos and driving videos through New Zealand, too.

If I'm not mistaken it sounded very much like Concerto Grosso in C Minor, Op. 6, No. 8: I. Allemande (Andante) by Fritz Kiskalt, Gerhart Hetzel, Hedwig Bilgram, Karl Richter, Kurt-Christian Stier & Münchener Bach-Orcheste.

P.S. Great video Rolf, a beautiful part of the world.

Great video Rolf (and music). It brought back memories of doing a 20-day walk in that general area. The mountains nearly always look more inviting from afar, though!

I'll have to keep those flights in mind.

Thanks H, I supose the Tekapo scenic flight is awesome too, I'll have to do that the next time!
And yes Stirling Falls is really impressive, one of my favourites too.
As for the music, I'd have to say Andrew came pretty close!

Impressive Andrew, I assume you have the same recording? It's great music indeed.

Thanks Chris. A 20-day walk must have been great, I'll add that to my list together with the Tekapo flight
