That is a super shot.

If he did a mosaic the California Nebula is just to the left of this image. It would give it a bit of red and look fabulous.

Very nice shot of a fantastic area! I have to say that the original one is a bit too stretched to my taste and also the color of the dust looks a bit fancy, the HDR is way too "violent".. it has however the merit to show the incredibly density of the area, someone should wander how it is possible there is still some light passing through it

That is the most stunningly deep image of the Pliades area I have ever seen. I will see if I can image some of the brighter bits of that dark nebulosity in the coming months.
