It's pouring outside, so what "other" things do you do?
Astronomical pursuits and rain are pretty-much mutually exclusive. What else do you get up to when the number one hobby is sidelined for a few days?
Like some others on here, I'm into fiddling with music and synthetic soundscapes. With the rain over the past few nights, I've managed to re-build my studio a little, and have mounted my current gear into new 19" racks to make my experience a little more tidy and manageable. Lots of aluminium angle and tech screws - great fun.
I like it fairly loud, so the rain outside is great as it dampens the sound making it out through my walls and windows. My neighbours like to let their damned dogs bark all night, so I don't mind it if they get to hear my noise once in a while...
Left Rack: Doepfer Dark Time sequencer, Doepfer Dark Energy analogue synth, Moog Slim Phatty analog synth, Waldorf Blofeld wavetable synth, M-Audio Axiom25 25-key MIDI control surface.
Right Rack: Behringer Xenyx X1222USB mixer, MOTU MidiExpress 128 and Dual-G5 Mac. A Korg Kaossilator Pro dynamic phrase synth/loop recorder and iPad/Alesis MIDI ioDock combination yet to be mounted in the lower space.
Desk: Behringer X U-Control UMX610 61-key controller and MacMini (Ableton Live 8 & iDrum) with dual screens running the show via Apple's CoreMIDI network protocols.
Hopefully it's clear tonight.... but if not it's almost OK
Well my new scope got here yesterday so you all know the story ,This weekend i plan to take part in a ham radio morse code contest so it can rain all it likes now, or maybe it might stop raining

While I enjoy music, I've never gone beyond keyboard. But over the last year or so I've nearly talked myself into learning the theremin. It's unusual...lolol ....much like myself.

I built a theremin as a teenager, Electronics Australia had an article and cct diagram from memory.
Music's big on the radar if HRH Liz isn't here, particularly music DVD's; she just doesn't like loud music and has a very narrow focus when it comes to music. I like to listen to almost anything well recorded; I'm not in to country or metal, although I'm partial to hard Aussie rock (Angels AcDc, Thorpy etc)
I've got a few guitars and like to get them out and play to my somewhat limited abilities. I started playing Guitar for a couple of years in my late 20's (too old really) and didn't put much of an effort in to learning, around 6 months ago my Grandson started dragging my nice 30 odd year old Arai acoustic around and after putting it out of harms way I decided to start again and I'm currently working through the excellent Gibsons Learn & Master Guitar series.
Great stuff Phil. We may have built the same EA theremin. That was some time ago!
My musical taste is incredibly flexible but I, too, have a keen aversion to both country and metal. Especially country. It's musically formulaic in every sense of the word... boring!!!!!

Nice setup Chris. Must resist... I have too many hobbies... I'll stick with playing with FruityLoops for now... Though I must say, on the rare occasion when I get the place to myself, I do like to listen to music at proper levels (i.e. front row of the concert).
Lets see, if its too bad for astronomy, I'll go for a ride or bushwalk or do farm stuff during the day or play guitar or FruityLoops at night. If its too bad for a ride, walk or farm stuff, I'll go 4WDing, or surf the net and/or watch movies.
Now that the kids sport is over for the year and I finally
have my weekends back...I can get on with household chores
and the never ending list of maintenance jobs on the house......
As I've just moved into a new place, I'm still unpacking.
Top of the list at the moment is sorting out the shed. No power at present but should have that on early next week.
When it's too cold in the shed (this is Tasmania after all), I'm studying for a ham radio license.
When the maths all get to be too much, I'll finish off the setup of my new CNC router but actually using it will depend on shed power
