Question Celestron Nexstar 114 GT ..??

Any comments on this from anyone. There is one going cheap locally and I thought I might upgrade my non GT, non powered newt.
1000 mm f8.9 but short tubed. Folded optics ? Reducer ?
Just might be an easier grab and go for next years trip down south rather than my 114 f8 914mm on AZ tripod.
I could sell that on to reduce outlay hopefully.

Gets ok reviews but you never believe the brochures do you ?

The mount is not hard to setup and get aligned. It's ok for tracking for visual use (wide field).

Can't comment on the optics, although it sounds like it has an inbuilt barlow. You may be able to put your existing newt on the mount if its optics are better.

It would want to be dirt cheap, otherwise put your money towards something better.

Save your pennies!

Hi Brent
It's the same size as your dodgy Chinese 114mm Newt!
Try saving for an 8" dob.
Much more to see with increased aperture.
New they are only $400-$500-
and cheaper 2nd hand.

Thanks Michael, I figured it must have some weird optics hiding in there for such a short tube. My current 114 scope would not fit and as below ....

Hi Peter, I got a 10" Dob I've built just working ( incomplete but functional ). This was for a small travel scope and the GoTo function but the price on the 114 has gone ballistic anyway so not going to bother with it.
