A monochrome Sphinx - does it work?

Hi all,

I've just been experimenting a bit with black and white processing, using one of the images from Girraween last weekend. This is predominantly the red channel, with some contrast enhancement and then a bit of yellow tint added at the end. (All done using the GIMP)

It's the first time I've really played with this sort of thing, and I think the result is more striking than the RGB version (which can be found here). I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts about monochrome landscapes and whether this image is a good candidate for this sort of processing.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,
Stephen

Stephen,
I agree,
just did a comparison and the B&W shows more crisp detail than the RGB version.

So if I had to pick one to put on the wall (I think you should ! :] )
I'd pick the BnW one for its better, sharper contrast and show of detail

Lovely work
well done
frank

Hi Stephen

I like the B&W version, it definitely stands out.

I also like the subject matter, that rock formation is very photogenic.

Thanks Frank, Shane and Ric. I've taken your advice and adjusted it a bit more Shane - here's the result.

Cheers,
Stephen
