Venus 28-09-27 better seeing

Hi All,

Getting really stuck into it. Many thanks to John (asimov) suggestion managed a far better image of Venus. Still noticed a lot of turbulence as I live very close to the Kwinana refineries it may be difficult to get a-one image.

12" DOB on a EQ Platform still waiting more parts. Canon 450D no filters unmodded image sequence through Live View option recording on APT software.

There is still some registration marks in the image, but is a vast improvement. Due to the atmospherics I dont expect I will see any distinct features also same again with an unmodded camera.

2 images:
1) AVI Stack with colour alignment using Registax
2) Full Registax processing.

I am quite happy to get a least this result

I made 3 sequences, These are the other 2 only slightly different but has the nice smooth edging I am looking for, still no features though.

Your next mission if you choose to accept, is get it about 2PM -

Nicely done.

BTW you'll be hard pressed to get any detail without a specialized filter. I have the filter, but it makes it at least 3X as difficult to capture at a decent image scale.

Thankyou for the comment, I will need to mod the camera next I think best with a clear filter. I will add other filters as needed.

I think i will give the 2pm a miss for a while, maybe when I go to the next DSO meet in November but I suspect Venus will not be showing much by then.

The limb brightening, very evident in your pic, is something us old time visual observers used to look for. Here is a sketch I drew in (wait for it..., drum roll) 1961 as a teenager.

Very cool. Would you be able to pick up cloud structures with a Baader Venus Filter and a mono DMK or do you need a special camera for this?

The general consensus is that Venus shows most detail in the uv and mono cameras can pick up uv. With a reflector and a mono camera using a uv filter you should have no problem picking out detail on Venus. There could be a problem for refractors, since glass does not transmit uv very well, but Venus is so bright that you can probably get a good image with a uv filter, even with a refractor. You can get these filters from Bintel. I'm not sure what will happen with a osc camera, because I don't know how much of the uv the blue Bayer filter rejects.

Many thanks for the comments, Thanks geoff I was a bit concerned about that very thing.

I didn't do any Venus shots last night but I was able to get good showing of Jupiter with the same camera as this image. If I only knew my skies last night were so great I would have got the scope out earlier. Cant do anything tonight night as I need my wife to help with the scope loading due to a shoulder injury.

Thanks for the advice on filters and mono. I will enventually get a mono camera, in the meantime I will cut off the saturation instead.
