Sth Cross...Fact or fiction?

First visit here so Hello to all!
I once read a Darcy Niland book "Call me when the cross turns over".
I always believed this referred to using the position of the S Cross to split a droving shift.
Is this fact or fiction and if fact has anyone a source of info to clearly explain this to a non Australian.
I have a Sth African park ranger friend who is interested in this story.
All help appreciated.
Terry

Apparently its a term that was used by Shearers/drovers when going to sleep at night under the stars.

"Call me when the Cross turns over"

Means wake me in 12 hours !
ie it takes 24 hours (approx) for a full revolution

Hi Terry,

to IIS.
I've never heard that saying before. That's very interesting.

What a wonderful expression. I've never heard it before.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
