Misty Abyss

Took this a while ago with my 50D and stock lens. Downstream from Natural Bridge Gold Coast hinterland. Light rain and overcast skies gave nice opportunities to slow down the shutter - virtually unedited, tweaked contrast and a bit of sat/vib. Thanks for looking

Comments and Critique welcome of course.

Darcy,

That is a wonderful, wonderful effort. Interesting composition, with lots going on about the place. My eye darts from corner to centre to corner and back again.

Some softer light would have done the overall image wonders, but, we can't always control that.

Keep it up!

H

Thanks H,

Yeah its a little busy, I took a few - hard to really capture it all in one frame. Was just happy because I basically did very little post process of these pics...which I guess is what I ultimately want to achieve.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/darcy-r/4446635062/ probably my favorite and like you said softer light would have worked wonders....the sun kept poking through the cloud at times but I was lucky for these at least it was raining lightly!

Cheers for the comments!

Your favourite is also my favourite -- excellent composition.

A lot of people find lots of elements in a photograph rather hard to stomach. I can handle both simple scapes as well as cluttered messes. It's still natural.

Darn it -- I wish you'd had soft light. : )

Very nice Darcy

The boulders look great in this image, their angular shape convey a great sense that even though it's a peaceful creek scene it can also be quite a violent river at times.

Top stuff

Thanks Ric and H for the comments!

Its a really nice spot, theres so many wonders virtually in our backyard and everyone is so oblivious!

Going on a 5 month USA/Mexico Trip soon with my 50D and 24-70 L Kit....going to be a lot of fun! Trying to figure out what are the bare essentials etc I think im going to be struggling for space!

cheers

I think it is simplified enough to make it a good composition. One could argue it holds the interest enough - as seen through human eyes. (As distinct from natures)

Looking at the first image I thought it looked good but personally i would have pushed the sat/vib a bit more

The second one seems to have achieved this better (possibly through contrast)

The second one is a winner for me
well done
