A sobering thought

On another thread, ballaratdragons (Ken) said:-

"..............this is a very fine thing you have done by informing us of the passing of a fellow member and enthusiast.

I can imagine there wouldn't be many that could do the same. If any of us passed on, who would let other members know?

Members, is there anyone that knows your password to come in here and inform other members? Would they even know to come in and tell us?"

I was just thinking about this a few days ago. I have been part of other fora where active members have unexpectedly vanished, leaving all concerned. Also where someone has advised a serious illness, then contact is lost. A few times there was future advice on what happened, but often there is not. I've also seen frantic searches to try and identify telephone numbers from directories, based on vague understandings of someone's location, when members were concerned about another member.

It is a characteristic of this cyber world in which we reside? So close, yet..............maybe really not?

Eric,

This is something that I've thought about since the mid-90s when I got on to IRC, ICQ, newsgroups, forums, etc.

Every now and then, I'll remember someone who used to post here, but, has been absent for a while, and wonder what's up, if everything's OK, are they having a break, etc.

I've made some wonderful friendships through IceInSpace, some of which have been really fruitful. If anything were to happen to me, I'd like to think someone would let those friends know.

You did Geoff, and what a great idea.
Anyway as you all know, well most of you probably do, I work in the funeral industry, and trust me it dose not take much for other people to inform others of ones passing.

I would be surprised that if one of our members had passed on that it would go un noticed.

To make it easy, just have this website, or other sites, in your favourites.

Then just click the "remember me" box which is presented when you log in.

That way, no-one will have to remember any usernames or passwords - only that you actually do frequent this forum.

And your n.o.k can then very easily place a post telling the rest of us that you're now daffodil fodder
