Dinosaur toe

I found this item about a year ago in western NSW and for the life of me i cant remember where.
And its been in my ute for as long.
Until i come across it again and i hope someone can shed a light on this sandstone rock.

Can any one shed a light on this specimen ?

Cheers Kev.

Kev,

Things I can tell you about the rock from your pictures....

1. It's sandstone.
2. The angular grains visible would indicate that it formed close to the source of the grains, ie they haven't had time to weather into nice little rounded grains.
3. The reddish colour is probably indicative of a high iron content.
4. It's about twice the size of a 50 cent piece.

I suspect the shape of the rock is due to weathering but without actually seeing the rock live or knowing where you found it I can't be sure. I should point out that it's about 30 years since I looked at a rock per say. Although I did Geology at uni I'm now a Geophysicist so I spend my days looking at a computer screen instead.

Less flies, dust, etc.!!!

Cheers,
Mario
