The Dark Doodad (HMSTG436) in Musca

Hi all,

I was debating whether to post this or not. It's not the best data ever captured; bit low this time of the year and with cloud about. Still, managed a couple of hours before I started to shoot B72.

I think that gradient towards the right is quite real. I can even see it in Starry Night Pro Plus. If it isn't, my bad.

I look forward to re-doing this as per Tom Davis' magnificent effort of 7 hours.

So, anyway, here it is, a giant turd floating in space...

View here.

Comments, critique, etc., most welcome.

That's a beauty H. The Tak is serving you well.

The doodad really jumps out against the background.

Love that analogy, very apt.

Cheers

So you're renamed in the Dark Dookie?

Lovely star colours. It's funny how you talk down about the quality of images that guys like me can only dream of taking.

Dust has come up very well H. That is not a gradient it is just an area clear of intervening dust.

See here for a bigger field but nowhere near as deep

A beautiful image. Very nicely processed too.

Why aren't you using your STL11, I thought you have it back now?

Greg.

Fantastic image Humi !!! Stars are countless and crisp across the entire field!!! The doodad looks great, but it looks to me that whoever (whatever) did it has a slight case of diarrhoea

Took a look at the attachment and thought, gaud, not again with the mush (WHY do you bother with that?), but anyway, the link looks far better, has a sparkling quality to it, thats almost sort of the way it should be IMO, nearly there (now wondering if you could bother linking to an even higher res?).

Otherwise its as tight as, good focus and guiding, excellent dust lane detail, and I like the hue around the big stars.
