From what I've read (Denkmeier website), you collimate a newt's optics for the night with the binoviewer in place and use defocused star images instead of a laser.
This sounds like a step back, with to-ing and fro-ing between the eyepiece and mirror cell. Is this the way it has to be? Any experience out there?
The accuracy/effort of collimation is inversely preportional to the F ratio of the newt
You can collimate an F8 newt quite easily with a laser alone, probably even down to an F6, lower than that and the effort required goes beyond just a laser.
