Four's a Conjunction!

Venus, Saturn, Mercury and Mars (and a few stars) put on a little light show as part of the conjunction of August 8th, 2010.

Venus is the brightest planet in the overall picture. Saturn is just to the right of Venus, and Mars is the bright planet above Venus. This trio forms a triangle. Finally, Mercury can be found as the brightest planet just above the brightest clouds.

Shot half-way between nautical and astronomical twilight, somewhere between Manar and Braidwood, New South Wales.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
30s f/5.6 at 17.0mm iso3200

Slightly larger version available here.

As always, your comments, critique, bashings, etc., are most welcome.

Beautiful framing H!

Yeah, we know what we are looking at, but the colours and the perspective as well as the lighting and clouds really give it some PUNCH.

Definitely a keeper for the wall of fame, one to be proud of....a simply stunning picture!

Vote 1 for Humayan for IOTW..

Cheers

Great shot H

It's a pity our own eyes can't capture the true beauty around us like a CCD/CMOS sensor can. But then again, could our mind's handle that??

HI:

Beutiful picture of the conjuction with great foreground. Over here we celebrate the national day of Singapore and i too was looking at the Venus-Mars-Saturn just nice to fit in 10x70 fujinon FOV. Mercury is lower horizon.

A quickie shot over my neighbours unit. http://nightevents.blogspot.com/2010...aturn-and.html

Very nice image H, the colors are wonderful.

However its two for a conjunction, more is a massing. Just a technicality I now but what can i say, I like perfection!

Well done.

Nice capture and some beautiful twilight colour.
I don't know why but I find the brighter part of the foreground somewhat
disturbing.

Cheers,
Alex

Nice shot Humayun. Is that a hint of zodiacal light that you've captured as well?

Cheers,
Stephen

Chris,

The reason for the description (even though it comes across as teaching people how to suck eggs) is that I post my images on other forums, and, they all get the same description.

As for IOTW, nah, it's not that good -- check out Alex's Milky Way, now, that's an IOTW!

Alex,

Cheers. Looks more like someone's just been abducted by aliens and the light is from the craft about to speed away. : D

Luis,

Thank you, my friend! This was shot quite late, but, early twilight is a magical time, indeed.

Stephen,

Cheers, mate. I don't think that's zodiacal light, despite the conical shape. I'd say it's more light pollution from whatever town that is in the west. I'll have to look it up.

Wow! Breathtaking! You beautifully captured the light play on the field, and the contrast between the green field, the pink wispy clouds and blue sky, and then throw the stars in for an extra spectacular light show which further enhances the beautiful light display on the ground. The field seems to go on forever, matching space itself above. And not to forget to mention the line up of planets going on in the meantime. This pic has is all. Now, if you only had the crescent moon in there, that would really have topped it off! Go back out tonight?? Go on, you know you want to.

I would like to buy this print in a large size, so will visit your website for pricing and info.

H, just when I think you have excelled yourself you go and top it off again.

Oh, I just realised I don't have your web addy yet!
