M17 -Narrowband (SHO palette)

Hello everyone
Switched to a repro now of M17.

The original is attached, and the new version is here:

http://www.martinpughastrophotograph...s/M17SHOv1.jpg (1.4Mb)

Exposure times were 6:1.5:5 hours. This nebula seems to boom in SII, so on the repro, I combined the Ha and the SII to create a synthetic luminance.

hope you like it
cheers
Martin

Little bit less neb showing in the background of "sid" but I think it's a better pic than the first. More colourful...most likely the result of combining Ha and SII for synth lum. More of the SII is being expressed in the image. Nice tight stars too. Detail in the neb on both an obvious and subtle level is good. I like the blue and turquoise colours

Love the repro. The blues really come through and better contrast overall. Nice.

Wow, just superb. The best M17 I have ever seen and I have seen a lot!
The resolution is startling good.

Greg.

Nice repro Martin. Tis the season for them. While yours is clearly a better image than mine I am marvelling at how close the detail and resolution are. Which scope did you use? I think it was a 14" RCOS. Am I correct?

Hi Martin,
I too like the repro, the colours are more vibrant/ evident and balanced.
The synthetic lum did the trick!
However, I do like what the original has to offer in the 3D effect bout the brighter and dark nebulous areas being heavy on the contrast.(if ya got it, use it I say)
Perhaps a mix of these areas from the orig, layered/ masked and painted in to the repro....
Best of both worlds...

Just my opinion of course.. still nice which ever way.

Rich.

Thanks Paul/Rich

Paul - this was taken with my 12.5" RC.

Rich - I might just try that blend and see what happens.
cheers
Martin
