Test image for a few things

Finally we had a small break in the clouds for a few hours, so i jumpped out and got testing with all the new things I have built lately. Still a few things to work though but not far now.

Also this marks the first image that I have used Ha data to the 40d's RGB data.

The image is cropped a fair bit to match up the different data (wasn't orignally going to use the RGB data).

ha, 10 x 10 min iso 800 astronomik 13nm flats and darks
rgb 5 x 10 min iso 800 flats only no darks

DSS, registars and CS4 for processing and stacking processing

Hi Brendan,

Details in the Neb look good, however, it seems the stars are a bit eggy. Maybe the cropping introduced this? or is it tracking related?

All the data makes for a very bright image!

hehehe yes the stars are eggy. im getting rid of the back lash issue. sorted the Dec, now sorting the RA a full pull down and rebuild will do that.

Shame about the slight drift in tracking coz the focus was spot on and you got some terrific details in there. Nice work.

Pleasing result for a test image Brendan. Good work. I was going to say the opposite to Marc and indicate that focus looked a little soft. I'm not certain if its solely related to tracking. Its a well balanced image from a colour perspective. Keep them coming.

Thanks Jase and Mark, i think its a combination of both the tracking was worse in my ha than the osc, its always moving the same way and i tracked it to the RA having a little bit of back lash, so i might load up the gears a bit more, the perks of having a high quality synta mount

From the tracking not tracking right, this will smear the image slightly hence giving the "out of focus" look, but i was happy with a record breaking FWHM of approximately 3.7 (I used to sit at about 6-7) Can't wait to track correctly!

Once again appreciate the feedback, im hear to learn how to make my images better and especially when i am teaching myself RGB combining because one day i will have a mono CCD

Thank you Gary, don't worry i am stoked with the image, it shows potential. I had another go last night after working with the guiding and changing settings im finally guiding within 0.5 of a pixel which equates to approximately 1.8 arc sec pk-pk so here is m16 with 2hrs of ha data.

Notice with the new vanes I am achieving diffraction spikes on quite a few stars even in Ha... ahhh 1.5mm of goodness.

Is it possible to post a full screen one so I can go swimming in it? The definition in the pillars is fantastic! Glad to see you got some sky time at last. There is so much detail in there, cant wait for the inevitable Ha RGB combo which I assume is pending?

Its great to finally see that a 10" newt is capturing good data with some more tweaking and fiddling i should be able to start getting some really high resolution out of it as the 40d + 10" is matched extremely well .98 sec of arc per pixel.

If only i had a EM400 or Titan mmmmm but for now its the long haul savings for a cooled CCD because summer is coming !

im sorting out the website to do this at the moment, i do post the images up to Photo bucket at 75% native pixel size but photo bucket loves to " reduce the size for some stupid reason".

soon as its sorted then ill shoot though the new image
