23/12/05 M42 and Flame

I cant remember the last time Ive been out to try DSOs , maybe a couple of months because of work/ weather etc but heres a start for the summer season . M42 is 14 2min 10 sec single exposures combined through a 80mm Orion 80 Ed and 5 dark frames combined . For the Flame nebula same exposure rates but unfortunately the 2 min 10 sec was the most i could go with the light pollution , faint hint of the horsehead but i cant get anymore info out of the image ...... .....but sleepy now

Well done Stuart......have you tried any Light polution filters to extend your exposure time.

I am finding with the Baeder UHC-S I can virtualy double my exposure times...well approx....I havn't done any tests.

Very nice Stuart. Did you track or hand guide, auto guide?
What mount did you use?

I like the results.

Hi Beren,

Like you, I haven't been able to get out imaging lately for a variety of reasons. Consequently I haven't had anything to process, so I had a go at your Horsehead. Hope you don't mind. There is a lot more there!

I adjusted the gamma via levels and then applied some curve adjustments. The result was fairly noisy so I put it through Noiseware. Not bad considering I started with a compressed JPEG. It would be good to get hold of the hi res version and have a go.

Tell me what you think
Cheers

Thanks guys for the feedback I appreciate it, Tony I do have a IDAS filter but have lent it to Paul to see how it would go with his setup and skill . Andrew no guiding just used the LX200 as the tracking platform for the Orion 80mm , with good polar alignment and pec training it gives good results up to the 4>5min mark.Tony thanks very much for the rework, I can email both images straight from stacking and calbration to you if your keen just PM me and anyoneelse that would be cool. Tony this is my first attempt using images plus as the focusing/capture/calbration/stacking vechile with my D70 using a Hap griffin cable and usb cable for download to the laptop . I didnt want to get it to complicated so the images are all in JPEG format and unfortunately rezing it here on the forum its a little degraded from the pic on my PC screen . The final image was simply adjusted automaticaly with the digital restoration function in Images Plus , hopefully I can rework it so its more presentable plus I have ten images exposured for 1min on M42 that i was going to add.Cant believe how cool it was to control focusing and capture from the laptop and have all the exposures controlled ....simply awesome
