Where can I get Tube & Tube Insert's for Dob in Sydney?

Hi, Everyone,

Am up to the secondary cage on my 16" Dob project can anyone help me out wih this question:

Where can I buy 1" OD x 0.049" thickness aluminum tube and the 1" inserts that are described in "Kriege & Berry" Book on Dobs.

I live in Sydney so it would be better if I could get them local.

Also does anyone have idea's of what else you could use for the Kydex plastic light Baffle around the inside of the secondary cage, and if not where I could buy this plastic in Sydney.

Thanks for your suggestions

Paul

Hi Paul,

I got my threaded inserts from Hills clearance centre in Victoria. They are the same company that makes Hills hoists etc. I am sure they would have a similar shop in Sydney. I am not sure which wall thickness they suit so it would be best to get the inserts first and then find the tubes to match.

I prefer thin ply to plastic. You can get it in 1.5 mm thickness and it bends easily. It is light, strong and doesn't distort in the heat. I got mine from a marine timber supplier. Doorskin might be an alternative. If you want Black plastic though, try an art supply shop. The plastic folders they supply for storing artwork look very much like kydex to me.

Rod.

There is an insert supplier over here if you get stuck, but it sounds as if they are readily available in Oz.
I used Formica on my upper cage.

You can get the tube inserts from Maumac Distributers in Sydney . They sell furniture parts to manufacturers. Normally they would sell by the 100's but if you tell them its for prototype they will sell you a handful.

http://www.maumac.com.au/

Hope this helps.
