Using Stellariumscope instead of 3 star alignment - HEQ5

Hi All,

A question if I might;

When I take the scope outside and plonk it on my nice new tripod marks so it points to the SCP (VERY accurate) and then I power up the scope in the SCP park position can I....

Start up Stellarium scope and simply click away to slew the object using Stellarium's planetarium (which is set up for my backyard site and time/date etc?) OR

Do I need to use the HEQ5 Handset's 3 star alignment FIRST, then park the scope and THEN connect it to the laptop so Stellarium can drive it?

I fiddled with a few different orders of steps the other night and found that I had funny results where the scope "lost" its position and when I told EQAscom to park the scope, it went to a strange position and not to where the SCP park point was.

Anyone have experience using JUST Stellarium scope and ignoring the handset setup first? Or is this a bad thing to do?
