This is an image I captured over the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately the jpg doesn't do the detail many favours, as w all know I suppose. We used to call this the Ghouls head (rotate 80 degrees CW). It looks a bit M42'ish with hot young stars in the centre forming a bowl structure.
Imaged with Televue np 101is and ST8300M. Astronomik 6nm Ha and Astrodon E Series RGB. Ha is a HDR of exposures from 1.5 min to 8 min (10 of each x 4 steps) and RGB are each just 6 exposures of 5 min each.
I used Ken Crawford's MLDB and depth of field processing techniques in CS3 trying to bring the cloud edges to the front and the centre of the bowl behind them, and basic DBE, etc in PI.
Dunno if I'm real happy with the colour but the stars look ok on this monitor so i'll leave it for now - ordered a Spyder on Friday so my calibration woes should be fixed next week.
Monitor calibration is my bug bear at the moment. Poor eyesight with a lack of ability has necessitated the Spyder3. I've adjusted the saturation a bit to try and guess what is needed on correctly calibrated monitors (as judged by others images) but I wont know until the calibration gear arrives.
Thx for the comments and when i get it sorted out I should be able to show what I am seeing here.
Very nice detailed image Mark. You won't regret buying the Spyder they work wonders. Blending Ha is very dificult and it is always some compromise between colour balance and star colour and even red colour but the detail aquired is worth the extra problems.
I really have to thank you for the heads up on the spyder. I searched this forum for calibration of monitors and found your reccommendation - shows how useful a resource the forum is.
