updating Synscan firmware

I keep getting a message saying "firmware update failed. Cycle power to Synscan and try again!"

I turn the power off and on again but continue to get the same message.
I have the handset plugged in via the same battery I use on site.
Could this be due to low battery charge or because the handset needs to be updated via a power source other than a 12volt battery?

Any help greatly appreciated, as presently there seems to be no firmware on the handset.

cheers!

Try redoing the firmware from a pc with a real serial port not one of those usb-serial adapters.

Just passing on what I've read from other peoples trials and tribulations.

In my work there is so much equipment that needs programming via serial port, and these usb-serial adapters are a real hit and miss affair

Thanks Geoff,

I know this post is over two years old but you saved me a LOT of grief, I just tried to update my BRAND NEW HEQ5 synscan handset and it crashed using the USB to serial which caused it to NOT BOOT at all!

After 5 hours of having the mount and trying to talk to it via the PC, I had a broken mount. NOT HAPPY.

Solution? Search IceInSpace and find this post, switch to the home computer which has a REAL serial port, and BAM, 2 minutes later.... ALLLL WORKING AGAIN with the latest FIRMWARE....

Wooohooo.

Cheers

Chris
