Internet issues tonight?

IIS seems to be the only site that's working tonight. Any overseas server is very very slow or not available. I'm with telstra. Any one else having problems?

There was an outage in East Africa....
Even though it might not affect us directly, but I'm thinking that if they have to re-route traffic around the area it might affect us? not sure just a thought....

Strange that it took 5 mins to load the page as it was about 1 sec for me...
I'm with IInet...if that might make a diff?
However, that bbc site sometimes does take a while ( up to 10 secs) to load for any of their links.

Some Melbourne ISPs (bigpoo, TPG, westnet, aanet...) are obviously having issues. Consensus on Whirlpool thinks it's "the school holiday kiddy rush" ..but I think there is something else.

We are having intermittent issues with slow connection (last few days) as well (aanet).

Actually last night when I was browsing ISS I was having big troubles loading Google pages, youtube and others but ISS seemed fine? First thought was my internet connection but it didn't make sense that some sites were working and some weren't (plus my brother was playing away happilly on the PS3 multiplayer). I thought my browser could have been busted so I closed it down, started up Safari and then checked the pages - there was some noticable slowness, but by the time I started up Chrome again it seemed to be fine.

Thought it was just me, but coincidence or something more global?? Hmmmmm

I have been having problems, but its been over the last 2 weeks. I'm on Ploptus dialup (Melb) , and i was initially getting PPP errors, server taking too long to respond errors then if connected, very slow data transfer.
I can hear the connection comms OK, and i can always dial the server OK
its just the verify and connecting thats playing up, and then possibly transfer rate as well.
At times it takes up to 60sec to load Google.
However, disconnect and reconnect and sometimes it works a treat.
I suspected my line, but i have a second PC with older software, and that connects every time.
It all started at the recent heavy rains we had, but i also had all the MS dotnet updates etc at the same time, and as i have a second older PC ( not updated ) that works every time, i suspect the updates and/or Ploptus, but cant prove anything yet.

Perhaps they are testing the new "you wont see it" filters

Andrew

Last night web pages were loading OK but a download took ages. I first downloaded the disc images for XEphem and the speed was OK. Then I started downloading the iso image for Ubuntu 10.04 and it was coming in at about 6Kb/sec. It was still going when I left for work this morning, with an estimate of another 19hrs. I thought it was just a particularly slow server but now I'm wondering.

The speed here at work is normal so I'll see what tonight brings.

Mystery solved. It seems one of my kids ( soon ex kid) has plugged the PS3 into the cable modem and down loaded a massive amount of data and used up this months quota..........
$#@%^&......kids
So I'm now stuck with under 256k for the next week

It seems my troubles were also with overusage of quota. Except that we had been told our quota had been increased. So after a short (30min) call download speed is back to normal (ie still too slow).

And everyone laughed when my kids (kid) made an impromptu post on my behalf!...ahhhhh the trials of parenthood!

As for Quota..we are always over. Luckily ours stays at 1.5Mbps (for 12Gb pm) we only pay $3 per Gb at a pro-rata rate.

So ...did you send them to their rooms (without the pS3)?
