Celestron 80mm Short tube (80EQW) OTA Focal Length 400mm
This is possibly the most remarkable telescope I have thus far owned. I will explain why I am so impressed by this modest little OTA below under the heading of 'Psychiatric problem'. However, before going into that I want to clarify one point for any potentially interested buyer. As displayed in the photo at the top right corner near the edge/perimeter of the lens is what appears to be some sort of spot (approx 1mm in diameter) on the inside of the lens - could be dirt or fungus - I don't know. I can confirm that this spot hasn't changed size in all the time I have had the OTA and as best as I can tell it does not interfere with the impressive optics of this humble little scope. Now the good news:
Psychiatric Problem
In my opinion this modest little achro appears to suffer from mental health issues as it seems to think it is some sort of Semi-Apo with a larger aperture. I am constantly impressed by, all things considered, how well this particular scope handles both high magnification and CA. Also, although old, I think the manufacture quality and material of this earlier 80mm short tube is much better and far more sturdy than any of its contemporary rivals. The focuser is also remarkably smooth.
This OTA would be great as a lightweight grab and go or as a finder on a larger OTA.
$100 (or make an offer) plus PPH (pick-up also good).
